Homegrowers Market

EXCHANGE -TRADE - SELL or BUY Homegrown fruit and vegetables

This month has been very busy at our house. The whole family has been out getting mucky digging up the weeds and adding organic matter to our rich clay soils. My goodness, I love my horses! They finally are putting themselves to use (other then being ridden lol).
I have several types of seeds coming up in clear containers filled with water crystals. These are all sitting on my bedroom windo because it gets full sun from about 10 - 6 at the moment. My almost 4 yr old and I enjoy watching them put out roots and then reach for the sun! Suprise suprise, we found a tomato plant growing amonst the weeds so we have transplanted that and it has gone mad! We will just have to wait and see what variety it is. I have already planted out the first batch of corn, we have spring onion and pea seadlings ready to go in and the radishes planted in situ with the carrots have started popping their heads out.
We have decided on a permanent chicken coop, we will convert our current feed and tack room and add a full size walk-in run. I noticed a 'chicken' mix of seeds you can buy online, I think it was Diggers Club. Apparently you sow these in the run and it helps to provide the chickens with what they need so I am sowing those in the next week after we put the framework up. Then the wire and door will go in and we can buy the chickens! I will try and find the link to post. Can anyone tell me which sort off chooks are best for laying??

Hi all! The chicken mix I mentioned above is not from The Diggers Club, its actually from Green Harvest Organic Gardening Supplies, here is the URL.

Shea, I have two chooks. One is an Isabrown, one an Australorp/Isabrown cross. The AustralorpX definately seems a more consistant layer, we're getting one egg per day from her. The Isabrown is laying 6/week (not a big difference, but I've been keeping a close eye on things). Of course, your conditions are going to be different to here in Brisbane, but I'd suggest getting a mix for your first birds and checking it out for yourself.
