Hello Paul - I haven't had much of a chance to get back here either.. too much going on in the real world. What would I do differently? Put the beds a lot closer to the house! The watering system is great - as I can isolate each bed it means I can remotly water what is not sensitive and hand water things like tomatoes. I'm about to put new beds in adjacent to the house and these beds will be long term crops like potatoes, onions etc. How's your garden going?
Regards, Hector

Paul, as promised (long ago), I've posted a blow by blow account on building a new raised bed. It's worked out very well, although I don't enjoy digging foundations!! I've got the potatos in and they are growing like crazy.
Regards, Hector..

Hi Paul. FYI I'm putting in a smaller bed for potato etc which is as long but half the width. I've taken photos of the prep work and will build a step by step to load up. I buy new 2.4m treated pine from Mitre 10 ($12.45) so a new bed - including quick set cement etc should be about $300. I'm planning to still be working these plots for a long time!
More to come, regards Hector.

Hi Paul, Thanks... I'm really proud of my wee plot. I'm on just over 3 acres and the beds here are on a terraced part of the land. I've built them 2.5 mtrs wide by 5 mtrs long - I only did this coz I didn't want to cut the timber. I don't recommend the width as I find I have to get into the beds to weed - kind of defeats the purpose. The gravel is actually recycled concrete and has set perfectly - just pour, smooth out and pad down. The soil is on top of 200mm of gravel and I have put an irrigation system inside this with three risers per bed and it's own isolation switch (this way you can dig the bed without fear of hitting the water pipe). Also it's three sleepers high but only two and a bit stick out of the pathway. I find it's high enough to till from outside of the boxes without straining your back. I'll put up some other photos so you can have a better look - anything I can help with let me know. regards, Hector

Hi Paul - Glad to hear you've done the Permaculture course! I have done it too. Am also a member of Permaculture North - have you joined yet? We are hoping to set up a local group by the end of the year, and you might like to join. If you want some advice on what to grow you could ring me, as have a couple of veg patches on the go. Will also see if I can get a note of this website put in the next Permaculture newsletter. I don't often have eggs to sell, as we either use or swap them, but if I get an excess I could let you know. Cheers, Mandy

Hi - I'm in 2066 too. I've got eggs. Do you have anything to swap at the moment?
