I like the way you can become members of different groups and Forums. You can also create your own group, make it as local as you like, and have different discussion threads within it to keep it tidy. Also, on the same site, you can get straight into detailed discussion on gardening issues with other people in your region - its 'well meshed'
However I can't see how you could manage the online, week by week, produce availability. Say we managed to get 50 people producing surpluses in the Blue Mountains - it looks like it would get fairly chaotic quite quickly..
I think some sort of weekly or monthly noticeboard would be good, so that people could post their produce availability within the group
